CERAMICS

INTRO TO POTTERY WHEEL
Susan Beyer, instructor

Tuesdays & Thursdays
March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20. 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm

In this 6-session class, discover the beauty and complexity of wheel thrown pottery. Learn how to properly prep the clay, center the clay on the wheel, and use tools. Glazing will be done the last week.

THROWING POTTERY 2

This class is an opportunity to work on various shapes on the wheel. Concentrating on a variety of forms, you can “perfect” your technique. Go into finishing your work.

HANDBUILDING WITH CLAY

Learn the basic skills and techniques of hand building with clay.(slab, coil, and pinch techniques ) Only your imagination will limit your possibilities! We can create functional and decorative clay forms such as vases, boxes, ornaments, flowers, napkin
rings, orbs, etc. until we run out of clay!!! Pieces will be fired and glazed!

DRAWING, PAINTING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Photoshop - ping

Adobe photoshop is the premier program for editing digital images. This seminar will cover the basics of color correction to more advanced concepts of mayor photo alteration. Bring notebook and pen/pencil to take notes. This is a seminar style, and the instructor will have his computer and projection equipment to show the possibilities of the program. Bring questions or issues that you may have about your program at home.


INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOR

In this painless introduction to watercolor, exercises are designed for learning basic use of brushes and paint -- washes, blends, layering, etc. Prepared paint projects take students through weekly progression from easy to more challenging. Paper and paint sets are provided. ($20 supply fee) and high quality brushes are loaned to use.

Bookbinding Workshop

January 19th, Saturday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
members: $35, nonmembers: $40

This daylong workshop is an opportunity for students to learn bindings such as long stitch, Coptic and flag accordion binding. These techniques can easily be translated to handmade journals, sketchbooks and scrapbooks. Students of any experience level are encouraged to participate. Bring an exacto blade or utility knife with heavy duty blades, a metal straight edge and a self healing cutting mat (highly suggested). Optional: Bring papers, or appliqués that may be incorporated into books. Students can make as many books as they physically can handle!


Multi Media Books

February 5, 12, 19th, Tuesdays 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
members: $55, nonmembers: $60

This 3 day class is a Hybrid of 3 different mediums: Ceramics, Painting and Bookbinding. Students will have an opportunity to use clay to create a unique, textured cover for a book using terracotta clay, fired in a glaze of their choice in the first 2 classes. Then they will create beautiful journal pages (or scrapbook pages) using colored ink, watercolor and stamping techniques the second week. Finally, they will bind the books using the gorgeous “Coptic” binding. Students are encouraged to bring any stamps, ink or paint during the 2nd class. Info will be available at the first class.

Supply List: Paper that takes paint well, paints, inks, stamps, brushes, bonefolder ($5 from teacher).

Calligraphy

February 9th, Saturday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
members: $35, nonmembers: $40

Learn the basic scripts that makes Calligraphy so Beautiful. This course is designed so that the beginning student receives basic knowledge of the foundations of Calligraphy. Time is allowed for practice, demos and critiques. Scripts: roman Capital, Foundational, Uncial, Chancery Cursive, and Gothic. Bring graph paper & calligraphy pens (ZIG markers). Some supplies available at class; supply list available at GRAA.

 How to Register 
Please register early!  All classes have enrollment limits and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Some classes will fill quickly. Some classes may be cancelled before the start date if minimum enrollment is not met by the registration deadline. Please note the ages listed for each class. Students under 12 years old, who want to take a class listed for all ages, should co-register with a favorite adult.

Class Fees:  Fees must be paid in full at the time of registration by cash, check or credit card (VISA or
MasterCard only). There is a $10 nonrefundable processing fee included in the registration fee for each class or workshop. Unless otherwise noted, fees stated are per person and do not include material fees

Withdrawals:  If your notice of withdrawal is received at least one full working week before the start of your workshop, you will receive a full refund or charge account credit of your workshop fee, minus a $10 processing fee. If you must withdraw less than one week before the start of your class, your registration fee (minus the $10 processing fee) will only be refunded if there is a waiting list for the class and your space can be filled.

Cancellations:  If minimum enrollment is not met by the registration deadline, GRAA reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop. If we cancel because of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund or charge account credit of your full payment.

Materials and Supplies:  Supplies and materials are included in the class fees, unless stated otherwise. Some classes may require additional materials fees to cover special supplies/equipment or require students to supply their own materials. Class supply lists can be picked up at the Arts Center or be sent to you upon request. Some class supplies will be available for purchase at the GRAA Arts Center.

Box 157, Little Falls, MN 56345.  To register by phone, please call 320-632-0960—we will take your registration information, but your payment must be received by the registration deadline in order for GRAA to honor your registration.
